Mythological Roots
The name Pachmarhi comes from the Hindi words Panch (five) and Marhi (caves). According to legend, the Pandava brothers from the epic Mahabharata carved these caves during their exile.
Colonial Discovery
In 1857, Captain James Forsyth of the British Army discovered Pachmarhi. Impressed by its climate and beauty, he developed it as a sanatorium for British troops. Even today, colonial-era cottages and the cantonment layout give Pachmarhi its old-world charm.
